Mystery Solved
Two area youths have solved a local mystery that has stumped city officials for years. The Rathsmith children will receive a special community service award in a ceremony next week.
After many decades, the Bank Robbery of 1934 has been solved. The children found the body of Herbert Conway in a cave in an area of the county park known as "The Cove". Preliminary tests indicate that he died from injuries caused by bullet wounds.
Conway was associated with bank robber Vivian Chase. It's assumed that he was shot by the sheriff while robbing the Hill County Bank in Oakhaven.
The cave where Conway's body was found is near an abandoned roadbed what would have been used as an escape route by Conway and Chase in the 1930s.
The police department commend the Rathsmith children on their outstanding job immediately reporting the cave.
